Join us for the webcast, THE INVESTING ROUND TABLE, a monthly session of name your favorite stock right now in true roundtable fashion. The round table knights include small company champion and Mid-Michigan Director Ken Kavula; Cy (MythBuster) Lynch; pharmaceutical scientist Hugh McManus; and Manifest Investing’s Mark Robertson who will analyze their favorite stocks. The team will be identifying companies positioned for strong performance and share some ideas about their potential. The tracking portfolio has a rate of return of approximately 16% since inception (July 2010).

In this December 2022 Roundtable session, Ken Kavula, Mark Robertson, and Cy Lynch discussed the performance of the Roundtable's tracking portfolio and the investment philosophy of selecting quality companies at reasonable prices. The hosts highlighted that despite market volatility and specific stock declines like Neogen's 67% year-to-date loss, the portfolio has achieved an 11% return over nearly 12 years, significantly outperforming the Wilshire 5000 benchmark at 9%. This 5.5% relative outperformance represents a new recent high and surpasses the traditional investment club objective of beating the market by 5%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Manifest Method in identifying exceptional companies with favorable long-term prospects.

The discussion examined several well-established portfolio holdings including Microsoft, EPAM, and Booking, which have delivered exceptional returns despite facing temporary business challenges. Cy Lynch emphasized the importance of distinguishing between temporary and terminal business problems, using EPAM's management response to the Ukrainian crisis as a case study in identifying quality companies that communicate transparently during adversity. The speakers also referenced widely-held stocks like Stryker, Coca-Cola, Apple, Visa, Fastenal, and Cognizant as examples of excellent companies that most investors in the Better Investing community own, reinforcing the core strategy of holding strong performers for the long term rather than attempting frequent trading.
