Bull Sessions (5/24/2022)

Historical and Hysterical. After spending the weekend in Gettysburg, my lap top decided to opt for the extended stay (gulp). This -- combined with the worst performance for the Dow since 1923 (that's not a typo) -- suggests that some history and context may in order against the backdrop of reality that electric cars were first invented and used not all that long after the Battle of Gettysburg.

Mark Robertson and Ken Kavula hosted the May 24, 2022 Bull Sessions webinar with special guests Len Douglas and Matt Spielman, both experienced automotive industry executives and individual investors. The session focused on electric vehicles as a major investment theme, exploring range anxiety as the primary consumer concern and providing historical context on EV development. The speakers discussed current market conditions, noting that their active portfolio has gained ground relative to the general stock market despite bear market conditions. They reviewed standing portfolio metrics, discussed several stock opportunities including concerns about Market Sharps and iRobot due to supply chain and economic headwinds, and highlighted banks and financial institutions as potential bright spots in the current environment.

The discussion incorporated broader market analysis using historical performance data, emphasizing the importance of long-term investing perspective. The speakers referenced performance comparisons, noted that significant market downturns are relatively infrequent and typically brief, and highlighted the value of multi-year investment horizons. They touched on various individual investor performance metrics, portfolio positioning, and provided educational commentary on market behavior patterns. The session maintained the platform's emphasis on fundamental analysis and theme-based investment opportunities within the context of current economic conditions including inflation and supply chain disruptions.
